The Marine Group Local Industries Upgrading Programme
(LIUP) was launched in 1995 by EDB together with seven major shipyards.
Over the last 9
years, Sembawang Shipyard had been actively involved and supported
the LIUP initiatives to upgrade the Singapore marine industry in
terms of manpower training, development of productivity improvement
tools,
introduction of new technologies and improvement of work processes.
Through this scheme, we hope to help our marine SMEs to continuously
upgrade and grow in tandem with the industry. In December 2003, a
theme “Strengthening
Marine Industry Entrepreneurship” and the first LIUP affiliate
programme for some 30 marine SMEs were launched by the Marine Group
LIUP. Under this programme, Sembawang Shipyard is working closely
with the selected SMEs in key focus areas on human capital development,
innovation management and entrepreneurship promotion.

Sembawang Shipyard assisted and co-host the Great Maritime Adventure organized by Singapore Maritime Foundation on 26 February 2005. The GMA was SMF’s first public outreach effort to promote the industry and the career opportunities offered by the industry. Sembawang Shipyard was one of the five identified maritime stops whereby participants were given the opportunity to learn about the shiprepair and ship conversion businesses.
